The National Institute of Mental Health “evisions a world in which mental illnesses are prevented and cured.”
To learn more about NIMH, check out their mission description and strategic plan, available in both html and pdf formats.

There are several ways to keep up-to-date with what’s going on at NIMH:

One of the areas covered by NIMH is suicide prevention. A news item has just been released reporting that black teenagers, especially young women, are at particularly high risk for suicide.
A new study will be examining suicidal behavior in U.S. Army soldiers, with the goal of being able to prevent suicide by better understanding it.
NIMH also has a page dedicated to information and studies on suicide prevention.
Also posted are instructions for anyone considering suicide or who knows some who is suicidal. These directions are available in both English and Spanish.
